During this week the vernix caseosa is formed, a waxy layer on your baby's skin. It provides protection against soaking amniotic fluid and consists of dead skin cells, downy hair and glandular oil.
Tiny nails are now growing on the fingers and toes. In addition, your baby's unique fingerprint is developing this week.
If you have a pretecho done in week 16, there is a good chance that you can already see your baby sucking its thumb. This is because the sucking reflex is already well developed. These primitive reflexes are important for survival outside the womb.

Although you are probably a little heavier than you were in the first trimester, you feel better than ever. You may even have a pregnancy glow! Shiny hair and a blush on your cheeks are totally normal. However, skin changes, such as acne or eczema, may also occur.
Brown spots on the forehead, temples and around the mouth may occur, known as a"pregnancy mask. It usually disappears after pregnancy, but protect yourself well from the sun. In addition, you may now retain more fluid, which can lead to thick ankles and feet. Keep drink plenty of water and wear comfortable shoes for the necessary support.
