  • baby park, cradle, co-sleeper or cot?

While they all provide a place for your baby to rest or play, each has a very different function. In this blog, we explain what each item is for, when to use it and which choice best suits your family.

the baby bed: the foundation of every nursery

Many models also have an adjustable base. In the first months, raise the mattress so you can easily take your baby out of the cot. When your child grows and starts to roll or sit up, lower the base for extra safety.

    Why choose a baby bed?

    • suitable from birth
    • safe and stable for the long term
    • often grows into a toddler bed

So for many parents, the baby bed forms the permanent sleeping place in the baby's room.

the co-sleeper: close to mummy and daddy

Een co-sleeper A co-sleeper is a small baby bed that you place right next to the parental bed. The cot usually opens on one side, so your baby sleeps right next to you but still in its own safe space.

This makes night feeds and comforting much easier. You don't have to get out of bed and your baby feels reassured by your closeness.

Co-sleepers are usually used during the first months after birth. After that, many parents switch to a baby bed in their own room.

    Advantages of a co-sleeper

    • your baby sleeps close to you
    • useful for night feeds
    • fosters bonding between parent and child

A co-sleeper is thus especially popular among parents who want extra closeness for the first period.

the baby cradle: safe and cosy

Een babywieg A baby cradle is smaller and more compact than a cot. It creates a cozy, secure sleeping place for newborn babies.

Because a cradle is smaller, babies often feel extra safe. It is a bit like the limited space they were used to in the womb.

Many cots are also light and movable, making it easy for your baby to sleep in different rooms in the house.

You usually use a cradle until about 4 to 6 months, depending on your baby's size and development.

    Why choose a cradle?

    • compact and cosy for newborns
    • easy to move
    • ideal for daytime naps

After this period, parents usually switch to a baby bed.

the baby park: safe play and discovery

Een babypark A baby park has a completely different function from a bed or cradle. It is not a sleeping place, but a safe place where your baby can play.

In a baby park, your baby can lie, roll and later also sit or stand quietly while you have your hands free. Think of times when you are cooking, showering or doing household chores.

Many parks have an adjustable bottom so you can adjust them to your child's age.

    Why choose a baby park?

    • safe play area
    • ideal when you need your hands free
    • encourages play and discovery

A park is usually used from a few months to about 2 years, depending on the size of your child.

                                  do you need everything?

Many parents wonder if they should purchase all these items. The answer depends on your lifestyle, space and preferences.

For example, a common combination is:b

However, some parents choose a baby bed straight away and skip the cot or co-sleeper. So there is no "right" choice - it is mainly about what fits your family.
