Overview: Toys by Age Group (0-2 years)

    0-3 maanden

Dimpel of Moonie) bieden veilige, sensorische prikkels. Koester elk knus moment: je kunt een jonge baby niet verwennen met te veel nabijheid.

    3-6 maanden

Between 3 and 6 months, your baby becomes more alert: they can grasp, shake, roll and explore during tummy time. Offer sensory toys that rattle, crackle or squeak, such as soft rattles, teething rings and crackle books in bright colours; this stimulates their hearing, touch and early colour vision. A baby gym or play mat with dangling figures — for example, from Little Dutch — encourages kicking and reaching, while a baby-safe mirror and a cuddly toy (Jellycat, Dimpel or Moonie) provide cheerful mirror play and comfort. Always choose light, non-toxic materials without small parts and clip a buggy book or colourful toy to the pram for entertainment on the go; this makes playing, chewing and discovering safe and fun during this growth phase.

    6-9 maanden

Between 6 and 9 months, your baby will turn into a real explorer: they will sit, roll and maybe even try to crawl, determined to push, pull, drop and chase everything. Encourage active play by placing a lightweight ball or push toy just out of reach; this will turn tummy time into a fun crawling exercise. Cause-and-effect toys—a drum to bang on, a pop-up box or a soft activity cube with rotating and sliding elements—strengthen fine motor skills and problem-solving abilities. Stacking cups, soft blocks and bath toys invite filling, emptying, splashing and knocking down towers (always choose non-toxic toys without loose parts). A baby-safe mirror encourages joyful self-discovery, a familiar cuddly toy offers comfort, and simple games such as peek-a-boo or 'where is the toy under the cup?' bring plenty of giggles and learning moments during this lively phase.

    9-12 maand

Between 9 and 12 months, your baby is constantly on the move: crawling at lightning speed, pulling themselves up, taking their first wobbly steps and exploring everything is all part of the process. Support that growing mobility with a sturdy baby walker or push toy (such as the wooden Little Dutch baby walker with blocks), a push car or ride-on, and soft balls to roll and throw back; this helps develop balance, strength and coordination. Enrich play with a shape sorter, large jigsaw puzzles, stacking cups and wooden building blocks for problem-solving and fine motor skills, and encourage imaginative play with a soft doll or toy kitchen. Interactive flap and touch-and-feel books, musical toys and simple light or sound toys teach cause and effect and hold attention during quiet moments. Combine active movement, exploratory play and cosy reading and cuddle time for harmonious development in this vibrant phase.

    jaar

Between 12 and 24 months, your toddler will progress from taking their first steps to walking, running and climbing with ease, so choose toys that support this new freedom: a balance bike or tricycle, pull-along and push toys, and soft balls encourage active outdoor play and promote balance and coordination. Role-play toys such as a play kitchen, doctor's set, child-sized play telephone or a beloved doll/cuddly toy stimulate imagination and social skills. Sturdy building blocks, wooden blocks and simple train or car tracks provide building fun, while child-friendly wax crayons, finger paints and clay nurture creativity and fine motor skills. Daily cuddle moments with sturdy flap and touch-and-feel books rapidly increase vocabulary—a varied mix of movement, pretend play, building and reading aloud will keep your curious 1- to 2-year-old toddler engaged in play all day long.

    jaar

From 24 months onwards, your child's imagination will burst forth: open-ended toys such as wooden blocks and building or stacking sets encourage free building and spatial awareness, while train sets and vehicles now become part of imaginary worlds. Role play flourishes with dress-up clothes, dollhouses, doctor's kits, tea sets and toy cash registers, helping social skills and language to grow. Craft materials – crayons, children's scissors, clay and finger paints – stimulate creativity and fine motor skills, and simple instruments (xylophone, samba balls, keyboard) invite music and dance. Puzzles and memory games challenge increasingly sharp problem-solving skills. Provide safe, high-quality materials in appropriate sizes, offer variety, and play along: this will help your toddler/preschooler develop fully in a playful way.
